Simon Earley, Earley Ornamental’s owner and managing director welcomed visitors, delivering a speech to introduce Earley Ornamentals and explain about the specification and installation of the company’s new biomass heating system.

Throughout the day guests, who had travelled from all over the country were given the opportunity to view the new season’s production and take a tour of Earley’s six acres of glasshouses, expertly guided by members of the Earley sales team.

The visitors also had the chance to find out more about the installation of the biomass heating system, which will transform the family-run business’ 12-acre site, saving a massive 664 tonnes of CO2 each year, and make Earley one of only a few growers in the region to adopt this approach to heating. Earley’s knowledgeable team and company representatives from the specialist biomass project team were on-hand to share information and answer questions about the biomass heating system and how it works. In total there were nine companies exhibiting at the open day.

Simon Earley wanted to give his guests a true Yorkshire welcome, with food and refreshments in plentiful supply, and was delighted with the success of the open day commenting: “It was pleasing to see so many visitors at our open day and I’m very proud of the team for making it such a success. Some visitors were unaware of the scale of our site here at Earley, so it was great to be able to explain what we do and share our recent experience regarding the installation of our new biomass heating system.

We also handed out 200 information packs and received lots of positive comments from visitors who were impressed with the new season’s production and professionalism and expertise of our team”.

Industry experts rounded the day off with Dr. Chris Hartfield, the NFU’s horticulture policy adviser who covers ornamental crops, detailing the very latest policy developments that will be impacting on the horticultural industry in years to come, and David Coyne from boiler supplier, Ashwell Biomass Solutions, who talked about working with Earley on the biomass project and the increasing popularity of biomass heating.
